Located on the Fleurieu peninsula near Adelaide, Fleurieu distillery has been producing award winning single malt whisky since 2007.
This release is called “Ecto Gammat” after the famous line from “The Fifth Element” and translates to “Never without my permission”. A peated, cask strength release, this bottle is a marriage of port and sherry casks.
A medium peat bottling, Ecto Gammat, like many Aussie peated whiskies, uses imported Scottish barley that has already been peated.
Nose: Soft and salty seaweed punches the nose before a light smoke and gentle richness takes over. Smoked salmon and blinis with crème fraiche.
Palate: Oily sardines immediately coat the mouth with a good backbone of woodfired pizza. The peat is noticeable but soft and has an oaky lightness to it. Slight black pepper spice but continues the smoked salmon flavours.
Finish: Long and smoky but has a gentle sweetness from the rich sherry influence. Leads furthers into that black pepper spice but leaves you desperate for another sip.
