Podere Scopetone Rosso di Montalcino 2016 750ml 14% abv
Podere Scopetone is a fairly young winery in the scheme of things with the first vines only planted in 1978. 4.5 hectares of vines in Montalicino Tuscany just south of Florence, with the Mediterranean climate of warm days and cooler nights providing excellent condition for the DOC Rosso di Montalcino.
Rosso di Montalcino is a four week maceration followed by 6 months in Austrian Oak before bottling. The tasting notes from the Primavera Selections for this are:
“Bright, ripe red fruit on the nose with a hint of vanilla. The palate is bright and buoyant morello cherry and cranberry coupled with Mediterranean herbs, an attractive, lingering sweetness in the aftertaste and a terrific acid lift.”
Food pairing for this would be pastas, herby dishes or breads. Certainly a wine that can be enjoyed right now but also not a bad option to pop away in the cellar and enjoy in a few years time.
