Founded in 2013 by Stuart and Naomi McIntosh, the Chief’s Son distillery is located in Somerville on the Mornington Peninsula.
Being very much a husband and wife team, Chief’s Son range experiments with lots of different strengths and casks types including peat and stout casks.
This bottle is ‘The Tanist’, a 43% marriage of peated malt and sherry casks to create a gentle drinking and affordable bottle of Aussie single malt.
Nose: Dark chocolate and herbaceous rosemary jump forward with the smell of old books. A delicate richness of warm leather and oak bind together to create a deep and complex nose.
Palate: Gentle whisp of smoke right out of the gate with a recently made campfire mouthfeel. A little tobacco ash and rich leather continues onwards. Some slight milk chocolate
Finish: Long and lingering with the rich sherry casks and soft peat casks blending together in the back of the throat to provide a gentle warming feeling.
