The Disitllery

Clynelish Distillery is located in the Highlands region of Scotland, near the town of Brora. It was founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford, who saw an opportunity to create a distillery that would produce high-quality single malt Scotch whisky using the abundant supplies of water and barley in the area. The distillery's location on the banks of the River Clyne provides it with a plentiful supply of fresh water, which is essential for the whisky-making process.

Over the years, Clynelish Distillery has undergone several changes in ownership and has been expanded and modernized to increase production capacity. In 1968, a new distillery was built adjacent to the original Clynelish distillery, which was later renamed Brora Distillery. Today, Clynelish is one of the largest producers of single malt Scotch whisky in the Highlands, with a focus on producing high-quality whiskies that reflect the unique character of the region.

Clynelish's whiskies are known for their waxy, honeyed character, with notes of fruit, spice, and smoke. The distillery uses traditional whisky-making methods, including the use of copper pot stills and wooden washbacks, which helps to give its whiskies their distinctive character. Clynelish's commitment to innovation and experimentation has led to the development of a range of unique expressions, including whiskies finished in port, sherry, and wine casks. Despite its large-scale production, Clynelish remains committed to traditional whisky-making methods and its whiskies are highly regarded among whisky enthusiasts and have won numerous awards for their quality and character.
