Ichiros Malt Wine Wood Reserve Japanese Pure Malt Whisky 700ml

The Chichibu distillery has always honoured its family traditions. This whisky is a living testament to that. Combining whisky from the Chichibu Distillery with ex-Hanyu French oak barrel whisky that held Japanese red wine.  

This Pure Malt from Ichiro Akuto provides an amazingly unique nose with the red wine up front developing in to a nuttiness with an almond and marzipan fragrance blowing across the palate like falling autumn leaves.  The nose continues to develop and secondary characteristics of cocunut, star anise and red berries linger.   The palate presents both spice and sweetness with dried figs, orange peel and apricots to start.  An interesting mix of red berries and chilli come forward and faint notes of milk chocolate and cocoa observe from afar.  A medium length peppery finish with the chilli providing host to tannis, dark chocolate and a hint of smokiness.

Colour: Tawny.

Nose: Red wine notes upfront, almond, marzipan, followed by coconut in a unique combination. Liquorice and star anise with red berries. Fantastic unusual nose

Palate: Hot and spicy, great sweetness, dried figs and orange peel. Red berries and chilli come second, and slight amount of tannins, milk chocolate and cocoa

Finish: Pepper and chilli. Tannins and dark chocolate, with a very slight hint of smoke.
