Chichibu Red Wine Cask 2023 Single Malt Japanese Whisky 700ml 50.5% ABV

A unique single malt, this whisky has been matured on its lees in red wine casks sourced from 4 countiries, France, USA, New Zealand and Japan. The combination of the inclusion of lees and sourcing casks from a variety of regions has added depth and complexity to this fantastic limited 2023 bottling. 

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Both red and dark fruits are present on the nose with the classic Chichibu malt backbone.

Palate: Honeyed Malt with red fruits and classic wine cask spice, though not overpowering with tannins. 

Finish: Soft spices with a long red fruit and honey finish.

Chichibu Distillery

Founded in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the founder of Hanyu Distillery, Chichibu Distillery is located in the Saitama Prefecture in the town of Chichibu. In terms of output, they are one of the smallest distilleries in Japan, producing only a small amount of single malt whisky each year. 

Chichibu’s focus is on using traditional whisky making techniques and ensuring quality in every whisky they produce. They source water from the nearby high mineral content Chichibu River, along with a small amount of peated barley to tie everything together. Chichibu whiskies are highly regarded by whisky enthusiasts, for both the numerous awards they have won over the years and their exceptional balance of flavour, texture and overall quality.
