Chichibu Aged 10 Years Distillery #1 Single Malt Japanese Whisky 700ml | 50.5%

Age statements from Chichibu are still rare, and this 10-year-old from Distillery #1 feels like a milestone. Built from spirit distilled at the original Chichibu site and matured for a full decade in a mix of carefully chosen casks, it shows what happens when the distillery’s high-energy malt is allowed more time to settle and deepen.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Aromatically it’s classic Chichibu, but turned up: orchard fruit, citrus, vanilla and polished oak with gentle spice.

Palate:  The palate has greater width than the younger releases – honeyed malt, baked fruit, toffee.

Finish: A long, measured finish where oak, fruit and spice stay in balance. You still feel the liveliness that made the distillery famous, just with more composure.

Chichibu Distillery

Founded in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the founder of Hanyu Distillery, Chichibu Distillery is located in the Saitama Prefecture in the town of Chichibu. In terms of output, they are one of the smallest distilleries in Japan, producing only a small amount of single malt whisky each year. 

Chichibu’s focus is on using traditional whisky making techniques and ensuring quality in every whisky they produce. They source water from the nearby high mineral content Chichibu River, along with a small amount of peated barley to tie everything together. Chichibu whiskies are highly regarded by whisky enthusiasts, for both the numerous awards they have won over the years and their exceptional balance of flavour, texture and overall quality.

At Casa de Vinos Lounge we use the 10 Year Old to anchor structured Chichibu tastings, often alongside Distillery #2 and Australia-only bottlings so guests can see how site, cask and age all interact. It will also appear in limited-pour sessions at Whisky Abbey, where Chichibu is routinely one of the busiest stands.
