This 2017 vintage Laphroaig from Thompson Bros was matured in a selection of refill barrels and bottled at eight years old. It is young Islay whisky with enough texture and force to punch above the age statement.

The profile is classic Laphroaig: medicinal peat, new bandage, vanilla, citrus and tar on the nose, followed by explosive peat, lightly honeyed malt, chalk and more citrus on the palate. The finish is big and clean, with fuel-like notes sitting beside heavy medicinal smoke.
