Ben Nevis 7 Years Old 2017 Orange Wine 1st Fill Hogshead 700ml | 46% ABV

This 2017 Ben Nevis gives the distillery an unusual wine-cask frame. It is a 7 year old whisky, distilled on 12 May 2017 and bottled in April 2025 from orange wine first-fill hogshead cask #8. It is bottled at 46% ABV.

Orange wine cask maturation brings a different reference point from conventional red or white wine wood. The safest way to describe it is as structured skin-contact wine influence rather than as a shortcut to specific flavour claims. Against Ben Nevis, that makes the bottling especially interesting: the distillery's malt weight can give the cask influence a firm base rather than letting it become decorative.

It suits drinkers who like wine-cask Scotch but want something more individual than the usual sherry or red-wine route. It also belongs naturally beside the 2018 Burgundy second-fill hogshead as a comparison between two modern wine-cask Ben Nevis releases.
