Blended Scotch Whisky 40 Years Old 1984 700ml | 40.4%

A mystery blend from Thompson Bros. It would seem, that at the very least, this has been resting in cask since 1998, marrying together for the last 26 years. At the time that it was reracked into its current cask, the age of the youngest spirit in this vatting was 14 years old.

The liquid itself would suggest that there is a high proportion of Islay malt, some well known for producing quite perfumed whiskies from the early-80s to early-90s.

After four decades in cask, and some helpful companions, this spirit has been tempered into a very elegantly and light peated, engaging blended scotch whisky.

Official Tasting Notes:

Nose: Waxed lemons, light, coastal smoke, sea spray, peat bog beneath ancient lavender fields. Plum and nectarines, slightly medicinal. Cream soda, but maybe not the freshest can. Something about French perfume.

Palate: Citrus continues on the mouth part, with notes of orange sherbet, menthol, eucalyptus, spearmint and some salted caramel. Green tea, kiwi skin and olives. BBQ syrup.

Finish: Ashy and peppery, with some brightness.

Thompson Bros:

After establishing one of the world’s leading whisky bars in Dornoch, brothers Phil & Simon Thompson expanded their vision by creating their own independent bottling company titled Thompson Bros. In addition to this new endeavour, they also began distilling whisky and gin onsite at Dornoch Castle Hotel. Since 2017 they have been releasing outstanding whisky and rums through their Thompson Bros label as well as laying down hundreds of casks filled with soon to be Dornoch Whisky.
