Tequila, Mezcal and Agave Spirits

Agave Spirits: The Next Big Thing in the Spirit World

There are many different types of agave spirits, each with its own unique flavor profile. Tequila is the most well-known agave spirit, but there are also mezcal, raicilla, bacanora, and sotol.

Tequila is made from 100% blue agave that is grown in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Tequila can be either blanco (unaged), reposado (aged for 2-12 months), añejo (aged for 1-3 years), or extra añejo (aged for 3+ years).

Mezcal is made from agave that is grown in any part of Mexico other than Jalisco. Mezcal can be made from any type of agave, but the most common type of agave used to make mezcal is the Espadin agave. Mezcal can be either joven (unaged), reposado (aged for 2-12 months), añejo (aged for 1-3 years), or extra añejo (aged for 3+ years).
